Kars is a border
province in North-Eastern
Turkey, preserving
marks of its long
history and its
ancient
civilizations.
Situated on a vast
plateau at 1750
meters ,a city of
about 100 000
inhabitants, Kars
is famous for its
cold weather,
honey, cheese and
beef. A city of
extensive
historical
background ,Kars
now enjoys to be
the theme town of
the novel `SNOW'
written by the
last Nobel prize
winner, Mr.O.Pamuk.It
houses numerous
historical sites,
a dominant castle
and a modest
museum. Along the
streets stand a
mixture of new
tall concrete
blocks, buildings
typical of Russian
architecture,
alongside with
disorderly
constructions of
all sorts. Public
parks are being
restored to
soften the grim
sight of the city.
The ruins of the
ancient settlement
ANI lie at 45 KM
south-east from
the city,
separated from
Armenia along the
river Aras.
Discerning
traveller to Kars
probably assigns
one whole day to
visit the town ,the
castle,
historical sights
and the museum.
The second day to
be spared to visit
ANI and
countryside.
We recommend you
to rest at our
hotel during your
stay in Kars. We
provide shuttle
service
between the hotel
and the center of
the town, also
sightseeing tours
during the season,
supported with
adequate written
guidance.
If you take
interest in winter
sports, Sarikamiş
resort at 55 KM
west of Kars
has
excellent
skiing and
accommodation
facilities.
